Cake and punch will be served alongside special displays of historical artifacts and exhibits. Afterward, the public is invited to step next door to The Guest House Museum for an Open House. Docents will be available throughout the house to answer questions about its history.
As a special treat, the FB-MCHS has arranged for a 1920s steam donkey to be fired up that same day behind the Guest House. This will permit a special blowing twice that day of the old Union Lumber Company mill whistle. For decades, the people of Fort Bragg oriented their days by the blast of that whistle, which went silent with the mill closure in 2002. In addition, local musician (and steam buff) Gene Parsons made two custom made whistles available, less ear-splitting but equally fascinating as the old mill whistle. These will also be supplied with steam from the steam donkey.
