Outlaws of the 20th Century: Rum Runners & Pot Farmers
The new autumn exhibit at the Kelley House Museum, “Outlaws of the 20th Century: Rum Runners and Pot Farmers,” opens Friday, September 7. Both alcohol and marijuana have their particular cultural histories that manifested here on the Mendocino Coast. “Outlaws” examines some of the relationships and parallels between the years of Prohibition in the early decades of the 1900s and the equally important decades of prohibitions against cannabis by the federal government. The “Outlaws” exhibit runs through Monday, November 12, and includes two presentations by local speakers. On September 23, “Sunday Afternoon With Pioneers of Pot” will feature cannabis pioneer Pebbles Trippet and cannabis heritage and tourism advocate, Brian Applegarth. Then, on Sunday, October 21, there will be a discussion of local brewing featuring a beer tasting. Both programs will be held at the Kelley House Museum from 4-5 p.m. with admission $5 for museum members and $7 for non-members. Exhibit hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Friday through Monday. Admission is by suggested donation of $5. For more information, please call 707-937-5791 or visit kelleyhousemuseum.org/outlaws.
